Travel
We have been fortunate enough to make friends all over the world, and for those traveling from overseas, we wanted to collate some information to make your planning as easy as possible. Of course, should you have any questions or would like any specific help, don't hesitate to reach out to us directly!
Passport
Start this process early! If you don't already have your passport, or if your passport will have less than 6 months of validity upon entering the UK, then you should probably start the application/renewal process as soon as possible to ensure there are no issues.
Flights
This is the biggie. We know that the cost of travel will be the most inhibiting factor for those joining us from overseas. We highly advise taking a look at flight options now, so that you can budget accordingly. Flights are generally only available for booking 11 months beforehand, so you still have some time, but generally, the earlier you book, the better the price!
Flight Logisitics
Recommendations for flights for those coming from the States
From Arkansas:
Generally speaking, Dallas to London-Heathrow will be your best option. If booking via American Airlines, you can book from Little Rock or Fort Smith/NWA to Dallas and then on to Heathrow. AA often includes the price for checked bags as well.
Alternative options include Little Rock to Orlando or Chicago, before on to Heathrow
For all from the states:
We would generally advise an overnight flight on the way over here, and try your best to sleep on the plane. This will really help with jet lag, and whatever you do, don't nap when you arrive!
On the way back to the states, jet lag isn't quite as much of an issue. I usually get an early flight and don't worry too much about sleeping on the plane.
Flight Checklist and Tips
A few additional tips and tricks for those coming from out of the UK
Flight Checklist:
Bring a refillable water bottle and snacks!
Make sure your toothbrush and toothpaste is packed in your carry-on. Brushing your teeth after a snooze on the plane can leave you feeling fresh for landing.
A change of comfy clothes for on the plane if not wearing these already for travel.
Bring a phone charger and you may want to buy a UK Travel plug.
